The best wedding shoes ever? Artist hand-paints sentimental details and quotes onto bridal shoes

0
Looking for a pair of wedding shoes that’ll reflect the true nature of your big day? Canadian artist Deborah Thompson may have the answer.
Her company Figgie Shoes specialises in custom hand-painted footwear, that’s more wearable art than fashion statement.
And unsurprisingly, brides to be are queuing up the world over.
What started as a favour for a friend has now become a business that sees Deborah shipping hand decorated shoes to over 40 countries around the globe.

How does it work? Each order starts with a consultation, either by phone or email if you’re not local, so that Deborah can get to know you and what you want.
“I ask for a list of approximately eight to twelve items they’d like incorporated into the design, sometimes offering suggestions to help [customers] think of meaningful things,” she tells BuzzFeed.
You then need send your wedding shoes over to Deborah – they can be flats, heels, trainers, anything – and she comes up with a design.
From personal letters and sentimental quotes written in calligraphy fonts, to patterns, illustrations and embellishments, nothing appears to be out of the question for Deborah.
She’s also created plenty of city inspired shoes, with a pair of peach heels painted to resemble a vintage illustration of hot air balloons flying over Paris being among her favourite creations.
“I’m all about little details and hidden surprises,” Deborah writes on figgieshoes.com.
“My favourite part is hearing and seeing firsthand the reactions from my clients when they first open their shoebox. That reaction makes all the time and effort so worth it.”
